All students in Year 11 and 12 study for a Queensland Certificate of Education in order to either achieve university entrance or vocational education competencies. We recognise that every student is different and therefore offer a range of pathways to ensure career aspirations are achieved. Students are able to choose from three distinct pathways:
Students in Year 11 & 12 have access to a very generous range of Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) developed subjects across all key learning areas, including Music extension, which is offered at Year 12 level only. Year 11 and 12 students who excel in particular areas are invited to participate in the ‘BCC into Uni’ program, allowing students to commence a university degree whilst still at school. If a student is successful in completing the units of work provided and assessed by the University, they are automatically accepted into the course on completion of Year 12.
The Vocational Pathway is advocated for students who desire to enter the workforce or who wish to engage in further training immediately after completing their schooling. These students will choose fewer than five QCAA Authority Subjects and may engage with vocational education and training opportunities to supplement their selected subjects.
The QTAC Rank Pathway is specifically advocated for students who are undecided about what they would like to do following completion of Year 12. Students are able to apply for a rank from Queensland Tertiary Application Centre (QTAC) on the completion of Year 12, which is based on a student’s results recorded on the Senior Statement in Authority and Authority-registered subjects and, if available, their results in the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test. A selection rank is a measure that places students in order of merit for entry into tertiary courses. Students wishing to apply for a rank will still be required to have completed prerequisite subjects, for example, specific subject requirements or portfolio/audition requirements may be required for some courses.
