Academic Scholarship

Bundaberg Christian College offers Academic Scholarships to students entering Years 7 to 12 in the following academic year. These scholarships recognise students who consistently demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to learning, and positive engagement with their school community.

Academic Scholarships are awarded through a competitive selection process and are intended to support students who will make a positive contribution to the academic life of the College.

Scholarships are reviewed annually to ensure recipients continue to meet the expected academic, behavioural, and effort standards. Students who receive an Academic Scholarships will be required to submit a re-application prior to entering Year 10, at which time their ongoing eligibility will be assessed.

Key Dates

• Applications Open: 29 July
• Applications Close: 14 August
• Scholarship Examination: 31 August, commencing at 9:00 am at Bundaberg Christian College.

Late applications will not be accepted. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications well before the closing date to ensure sufficient time to complete both the College application and ACER registration.

Application Process

Students wishing to apply for an Academic Scholarship must complete both of the following steps:

1. Submit an Academic Scholarship application to Bundaberg Christian College via the College application form Academic Scholarship Application 2027
2. Register for the ACER Scholarship Test through the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) ACER Scholarship Registration

Applications will only be considered once both registration processes have been completed.

Scholarship Examination Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $125 per student applies for the ACER Scholarship Test. This fee is paid directly to ACER at the time of registration and is administered independently of Bundaberg Christian College.

Important Information

• Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee the offer of a scholarship, as scholarships are awarded competitively and subject to the availability of places. Scholarship offers are made at the discretion of the College.
• Receipt of a scholarship does not guarantee ongoing eligibility, with annual reviews conducted to ensure recipients continue to meet the required standards.

Special Ability Scholarships

Bundaberg Christian College offers Special Ability Scholarships to recognise students who demonstrate exceptional talent, commitment, and character in a particular field. Scholarships may be available in the following categories:

• Agriculture
• Music
• Sport
• Christian Service

Scholarships are intended to support students who will not only excel in their chosen field but also make a positive contribution to the life of the College.

 General Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for a Special Ability Scholarship will be expected to demonstrate:

• A high level of commitment to their chosen field, with a minimum of 18 months of consistent participation or involvement.
• A high level of skill, achievement, or demonstrated potential in their chosen field.
• Evidence of recent achievement within the past 12 months.
• Evidence of good character, teamwork, sportsmanship (where applicable), and integrity.
• A recommendation from a current coach, instructor, teacher, mentor, or recognised leader within their chosen field.
• A commitment to being a positive role model for other students.
• A willingness to actively contribute to the culture and values of Bundaberg Christian College.
• A commitment to participating in College activities, performances, competitions, events, or programs relevant to their scholarship category.

 Purpose of the Scholarship

The purpose of a Special Ability Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to help offset costs directly associated with the student’s ongoing development and participation in their chosen field. This may include, but is not limited to:

• Tuition or coaching fees
• Competition or performance costs
• Specialist training or development opportunities
• Other approved expenses that directly support the student’s continued growth and excellence.

Scholarship funding is intended to support the student’s continued development and may be applied towards up to twelve months of approved tuition or related expenses, as determined by the College.

Category-Specific Criteria

Music Scholarship

Applicants would generally be expected to:

• Have achieved AMEB Grade 4 or an equivalent recognised standard.
• Demonstrate musical excellence through an audition or portfolio, if requested.
• Be willing to participate in College music ensembles, performances, chapels, and other music-related activities.

Sport Scholarship

Applicants would generally be expected to:

• Have represented at Wide Bay Regional School Sport level or higher in at least one sporting discipline.
• Demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and commitment.
• Be willing to represent Bundaberg Christian College in interschool sporting competitions and Lions Program whenever possible.

Agriculture Scholarship

Applicants would generally be expected to:

• Be actively involved in the College’s Hoof & Hook program and other agricultural co-curricular activities.
• Provide evidence of recent achievements and involvement in agricultural competitions, exhibitions, or related activities.
• Demonstrate a genuine passion for agriculture and a willingness to contribute to the College’s agricultural programs.

Christian Service Scholarship

Applicants would generally be expected to:

• Be an active member of a local Christian church.
• Demonstrate a high level of commitment and involvement in their church community for a minimum of 18 months.
• Provide evidence of Christian service within their local church and the wider community during the past 12 months.
• Demonstrate Christian character through evidence of the Fruit of the Spirit in their daily life and interactions.
• Provide examples of service, which may include (but are not limited to):
  • Sunday School or children’s ministry
  • Worship team participation or leadership
  • Youth leadership
  • Retirement village or aged-care ministry
  • Community outreach or mission activities
  • Other regular acts of Christian service and leadership
