The early years of Junior School lay the foundations for life-long learning. BCC Prep is available for children who turn 5 by June 30 in the year they start school. Through hands-on and formal learning experiences, students engage with the Australian Curriculum through literacy and numeracy learning experiences, developing a solid foundation for future success. Christian values are an integral part of the students’ day, beginning with prayer and devotions and infused throughout every facet of the curriculum. Each Prep class has a fulltime teacher’s aide to support the learning program offered.
While each child is focused on developing a deep understanding of literacy and numeracy, they learn contemporary IT skills, grow in their knowledge of the arts, develop lifelong health and physical education skills and understandings, and importantly, grow in Christian moral character which equips them with core values for lifelong success.
Meet our Prep teachers
My name is Michael Sinclair and I love being a Prep Teacher.
I graduated from Central Queensland University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Learning Management (Primary) and began teaching in 2014. Prior to teaching, I spent five years working with children in State Care including a year as Case Manager for programs specialising in trauma and attachment.
My wife, Holly, and I enjoy a relaxing lifestyle by the beach and are excited to be a part of the Bargara Presbyterian church plant where we have led the Youth Group for the past three years. I also enjoy soccer and chess.
As a child growing up I would write many short stories and have always been an avid reader. It is my love of books that makes the teaching of reading and writing a joy. I always celebrate with my Preps as they learn to sound words out, read and compose their own stories. I graduated from Central Queensland University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. This is my fifth year of teaching at Bundaberg Christian College.
I have been married for four years to my husband, Matt, who is a farm manager at a sweet potato farm. My weekends are spent with my family, going to church, swimming at the beach and sitting on the couch with my cat and a good book.
I am very excited to be continuing the Jolly Phonics Program this year. The program helps children to become fluent readers through a fun and hands-on approach. I am also very passionate about our flexible learning space, enhanced by our new classroom furniture.
Harper is SO excited for school everyday! When the school year started my husband and I did not know how he would deal with PREP. Harper can't wait to get into class each morning and see Mr Sinclair. The classroom is set up amazingly with the new furniture and there's so much to do: from home corner to the reading corner. When doing homework with Harper it blows my mind how much these little preps learn each day. We are so very thankful to have a fantastic teacher in Mr Sinclair, you can see how much he enjoys his students and it really shows in the love for learning our prep has already!
