Olympic Inspiration Meets School Successes

College Monday, 25 Oct 2021

Last Tuesday night celebrated the triumphs, successes and hard work of both Sportspeople and Cattle Show teams with the 18th Annual Sports and Hoof 'n' Hook Awards.

Tuesday October 19th was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate a year of triumphs, success and hard work with the annual Sports and Hoof ‘n’ Hook awards evening.

From a procession of house banners and flags in a grand entrance to a special guest Alumni Olympian; the night was all that parents and students hoped it would be.

Junior School awards were presented for Achievement in HPE and Sport, Sporting Spirit Medallions (spirited effort in several sports), Player of the Season and Most Improved for Inter School Sport and Junior School Sporting Team of the year. BCC Academy of Sport team members were introduced to the audience prior to the awarding of MVP for each team, followed by the recognition of Representative players.

Middle and Senior School Awards ranged from Most Improved and Player of the Season for local school sporting competitions to Representative and Sporting Spirit Medallions for students whose sporting prowess had seen them participate in a variety of sports and at a regional or state representative level.

The Hoof N Hook program has had incredible success throughout the year. This was recognised and celebrated alongside the students’ sporting peers as Show Team members were each recognised for their participation before Middle and Senior Handlers & Judges of the year were awarded. Before this was wrapped up completely though, students took a moment to recognise and thank their mentor Mr Bob Hibbard for his decades of work with Hoof N Hook and to wish him well in retirement next year. In a touching tribute, Accolades for Mr Hibbard came from current and past students as well as the staff he has worked alongside. He was presented with a small token of appreciation for the way he has consistently and constantly imparted knowledge and mentored students who have participated in the Hoof ‘n’ Hook program.

The highlight of the night outside of awards though, was the privilege and pleasure of hearing from Olympian and Past Student Isaac Cooper. Isaac was part of the Australian Swimming Team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and imparted his experiences as an athlete, how he overcame the challenges of managing training and school work as well as his own recollections of the events he competed in during the Olympics. Isaac’s conversation with Principal Mr Paul Thompson was inspirational with all involved hanging off every word and enjoying the stories he shared. Isaac was also invited to hand out the Major awards for Middle and Senior Sportsperson of the Year.

Congratulations to all of our Sport and Hoof n Hook students for the way they have represented themselves and lived out our college values in all their competitions throughout 2021.

A full list of all award recipients will be posted soon!
