← New Addition to BCC's Academy of Sport Program
This year, we have introduced girls' cricket into the BCC Academy of Sport Program in Junior School. Training started in Term 1, with around 18 enthusiastic girls turning up for weekly training sessions. The girls were taught how to bowl, field and bat in preparation for the Woolworths Schools Cricket Blast held in Term 4. We entered two girls' teams into the competition and they performed very well, placing 3rd and 4th. One of the teams missed out on the Grand Final by two runs! It was a great effort considering only a few girls from the squad had actually played the game of cricket before!
In late Term 3, we sent nine girls off to the Bundaberg District Girl’s Cricket Trials. Three of our girls were selected into the U12 team to compete at the Wide Bay Championships over the weekend in Bundaberg. This was a great achievement for BCC considering there were only 12 girls selected from across Bundaberg and two of our girls are from Year 5. Abbagail Cahill (Year 5), Lea Nieuwoudt (Year 5) and Lucy Geiszler (Year 6) were the three girls selected. The girls played well and displayed great skills across the days of competition. Congratulations, girls, on your selection into the Bundaberg team and we look forward to your ongoing success in the game of cricket.
