← Kirio House Dominates Junior Cross Country

The BCC Junior School celebrated end of term 1 with a competitive and lively Cross Country event held on campus for the first time in 3 years.

A sea of Yellow, Red and Green was across the oval as the Primary School donned their house colours and cheered on their runners.

From the smallest of the preppies to the tallest of the year 6ers, everyone had the chance to get out on the custom tracks, giving it their all and often shadowed by year 10 students assisting throughout the event.

PE Teacher Mr Rod Howard was impressed at the sportsmanship from all of the students and the excitement of having parents on site to cheer their children on.

“This year, we created three new courses varying in distances - 500m, 1km and 2km around the school oval and adjacent road” he said. “Students must be commended on their efforts, as they ran and completed their races to their best of their abilities.”

Outside of the regular PE lessons, students also had the chance to do some training through running their Daily K’s course every Monday to Wednesday mornings.

But in the end there could only be one house victor and for 2021 it was the Red team – Kirio. Through their hard work on and off the course Kirio House was awarded Cross Country champion but also the House Spirit Award.

Head of Junior School, Mr Brendan Hosking was impressed with the whole event and was especially grateful for the hard work of his staff. “Days like this take an incredible team effort and Mr Howard organised an exceptional event” he explained.

“We had class teachers supervising the house tents, parent helpers and other staff looking after the results processing and logistics of the finish line and of course the unsung heroes of our grounds staff who worked alongside Mr Howard to ensure the course was marked out, marquees set up and packed up and our oval was in its best condition – especially following the rain early in the week.”
