Historical Explorers in Grade 3

by Mrs Melinda Hair

On Tuesday the 7th of September, the grade 3 cohort ventured on down the road to Childers to explore the history of the area and to observe changes over time in toys, medicine and everyday items. This was part of their term 3 History unit focusing on the heritage and changes in our local and surrounding areas.

The students discovered old dental chairs and the unpleasant tools that were used when going to the dentist. Let's just say, everyone was very grateful how far technology has come. Going to the dentist now, doesn't seem that bad after seeing that.

Childers Historical Village was very interesting and really showed the kids what life used to be like. They loved seeing the small buildings set up as a classroom, house, general store and post office. Some of the grade 3's were lucky enough to have a go at making rope with the old equipment.

On the way home, they made a stop in at the Flying High Bird Park. The kids loved being amongst the birds, having them land on them. They were lucky enough to be feed many other animals and be amongst them.

Overall, it was a tremendous day, and everyone left learning something new they'd not seen or heard about before.
