← Gracee Goes to China

In Term 3, I was asked to join a group of strings students who were going to China to represent Bundaberg in the Annual Folk Festival in September. The group was made up of twelve high school students from around the Bundaberg region. Through rehearsals and then over the course of the trip, we grew close and became friends. It was an experience of a lifetime and one I will never forget.

My highlights from Beijing included:

Visiting the Great Wall and climbing part of the way up; going to the Summer Palace; walking through Tiananmen Square and into the Forbidden City and experiencing the food from across the city.

My highlights from Nanning included:

Being immersed in China’s culture through the food, performances and the new and old architecture - it was amazing to see and experience China’s vast and abundant history.  Visiting our Sister City School - watching the students perform and performing for them was a pleasure, they all have such incredible talent in their music and art.  Getting to know our tour guides, Aimee and Luna; they were so dedicated and organised and they both made Nanning so enjoyable with their constant support, positive attitude and smiles.  Playing at three different events.

I will forever be grateful that I was given the opportunity to go to China and experience its culture. This has been one of the biggest highlights of my life; I hope this trip will continue to happen so other students can have an amazing experience as I did. My biggest encouragement for anyone is to take advantage of the opportunities that God provides, because he will have some amazing plans in store for you.  Gracee Grolimund
