From the Principal

College Tuesday, 16 Nov 2021

As the shepherds watched their flocks by night, they saw something amazing and bright. The angel of the Lord spoke to the shepherds and directed them to the birth of the Saviour, Christ the Lord.

I am not sure about you, but I love this time of year. The songs of Michael Buble’s Winter Wonderland, Christmas craft being made by children, Christmas carols sung and decorations in the shops. It is a time where we celebrate the birth of Jesus, recognising God’s plan for humanity. It is something we can rejoice in, reflect on and open our hearts to.

It also signifies the end of another school year. For our Preps, this is their first ‘big holiday’. For our Year 12s, it signifies the beginning of a new chapter of life after school. All the end of year celebrations, award nights, Christmas parties, end of school fun days and graduations are times we can reflect and be grateful for the year that was. During what can often be a busy time of year, may we remember and celebrate the good things this time of year brings.

COVID Update

As you would be aware, the Queensland government has updated the rules regarding COVID vaccinations and what people can and cannot do.

The Premier has contacted Independent Schools Queensland, of whom we are a member school, to encourage independent schools and their communities to promote getting a COVID vaccine. It was a letter requesting us to assist in helping to get more people vaccinated.

Schools have not been mandated as a place where vaccinations are required, both in terms of students attending and as a place of work. I do not want to speculate what the future may hold as I simply do not know.

We will be required to comply with the directions made by the government and have done so since the beginning. I am unsure of what this means for us into the new year. We will communicate this with the community in due time.

I do ask that we be prayerful and respectful, and regardless of our thoughts and opinions, may we be extra vigilant in fostering unity within our community.

Your child’s report will be available via the Parent Portal on Wednesday 8 December. We will email home when this is ready for you to access.

Finally, with the year ending, I would like to thank you for partnering with the College in educating your children. I am humbled every day as I see students and staff interacting with each other, working together to see your children learn. We are blessed to have such a dedicated team of teachers, educators and non-teaching staff, all working together to see your children learn, grow and develop. Thank you staff, thank you students, and thank you parents and carers.

Merry Christmas,

Mr Paul Thompson
