Cans for Christmas Appeal

College Thursday, 01 Dec 2022

BCC students and their families have generously collected over 2700 tins of canned food and Christmas puddings for local Bundaberg families in need. Donations will be distributed by charity Global Care Bundaberg.

From Chrysalis Early Learning Centre, right through to graduating Year 12s, students took up the call to help others this Christmas season.

In Junior School, 1813 cans were collected, with Mrs Elson’s year 4 class collecting 315! In Middle and Senior School, 11C collected 351 cans.

Senior Chaplain Kelli Ussher said nothing warms a Chappy’s heart more than seeing students look beyond themselves and want to help others.

“I am blown away at the generosity of our students and their families, and are so proud of their efforts,” Chappy Kelli said.

“Our Cans for Christmas Appeal not only provides an avenue for helping others in need, but it’s a powerful learning opportunity for our students who are now more aware of the challenges others are facing in our own region,” she said.

While there are many items that can be donated at Christmas time, tins are a helpful resource for families and individuals who may be living in their car or in places with little or no cooking facilities.

Junior School Chaplain Steve Taggart said it was encouraging to see the student's hearts to donate and support this cause.
“A huge thank you to all parents and carers who helped look after those less fortunate than us particularly in this season and when people are really struggling.  Well done BCC community,” Chappy Steve said.
