2022 Commencement Service

BCC’s student leaders and new staff were officially welcomed and commissioned at the College’s Commencement Service held 1 April. College Captains Kristen Apostol and Cornelis Van Der Merwe inspired students, staff and guests with the 2022 Year 12 cohort legacy—‘DARE’.

Kristen said the beauty of the DARE legacy was it could mean different things to different people. 

“On one day, DARE may look like studying for one minute more than you planned. Another day, it may look like having a conversation with the new kid instead of just noticing them,” she said. “Insert what you’re passionate about, what makes you click, and see if you’ll go half a step, three steps, or even leaping beyond what you did yesterday!”

Cornelis called his fellow students to take up the challenge of the DARE legacy.

“We dare you, students of BCC, to be bold; to unite in seizing every moment of every day. We dare you to grow—to grow not only as a person, but as a friend, a student, a brother, sister, son or daughter—and to grow your relationship with God and with others around you,” he said.

BCC Principal Mr Paul Thompson shared the College’s Bible verse of the year from Philippians 4:8 - “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.” 

Mr Thompson encouraged students and staff to keep their focus on things that will help them to grow, develop, learn, improve their educational journey, and develop godly character.

“May we be a community of people who dare to make a difference in the world around us,” he said.
