BCC Values - RISE

At Bundaberg Christian College we have modelled our values on the Word of God. From lessons taught in the Gospel, BCC has formed the College RISE Values.

* Respect -  We believe that respect is an attitude of love towards all people, understanding that God loves everyone and that He has personally appointed the people in authority over you.  In regard to property, respect is an attitude of thankfulness to God, thanking Him for blessing us with what He has given us and by  showing love to all others by respecting their property.  And finally, respect for God is following what He says but not out of a religious attitude, but one that loves Him and respects Him because He sent His only Son to die on the cross for us. Respect is love in Action.

1 Peter 2:13-17 says:  “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men:  whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by Him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.  For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.  Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil;  live as servants of God.  Show proper respect to everyone:  Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honour the king.”

* Integrity -  At BCC we believe integrity is so much more than a code.  At BCC, integrity is a way of living; a lifestyle!  It is about being honest, and being of good character. Although the word integrity is not often used, it can be recognised.  When you look at someone who is consistent with his or her morals, who tells the truth no matter what the consequence may be, and who has a real strength of character, this person shows integrity.  And usually, this person is someone we all strive to act like. Integrity has been added to the “RISE” formation because it is an achievable character that God wishes to see in us all.

Job 8:5-6 says:“But if you pray to God and seek the favour of the Almighty, and if you are pure and live with integrity, He will surely rise up and restore your happy home.”

* Servanthood1 Peter 4:9-10 says:“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.  Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”

These verses are saying that whatever skills and talents we have we should use these to serve God.  It is from God that we have these talents so we should use them for His glory.  We should also serve others willingly and joyfully, out of love, as Jesus did.  By doing this we will show Christ through us, which all Christians should aspire to.

* ExcellenceColossians 3:23 says:“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

This applies in all areas of our school.  In academics throughout our school, we have students who achieve various grades in the work they do.  However, the grade is not the important part, but the effort applied.  This also relates to sport in our school.  It isn’t about winning but about striving for new personal bests.  The same goes for everything.  Whether it’s performing on a stage or wearing your uniform correctly.  We should all be striving for excellence!
