Curriculum Offerings

The objectives of the Secondary School curriculum are: -

  • * To provide an educationally sound core of subjects for every student, ensuring skills development in literacy, numeracy and general knowledge that will complement their future career paths.
  • * To provide some choice within the curriculum to meet the personal needs and interests of individual students.
  • * To provide a curriculum that caters for students’ varying competencies so that highly capable students can progress at a rapid rate and less capable students can progress according to their own rate of learning.
  • * To provide, in junior secondary schooling, skills that are prerequisites for certain senior subjects, e.g. Graphics, Home Economics, Health & PE
  • * To provide, in senior secondary schooling, skills that are prerequisites for certain tertiary courses and vocational opportunities.
  • * To provide relevant experiences which may prepare the student for the workforce and foster interest in career opportunities.

 

Year 10 Curriculum

Our Year 10 students study three core subjects: English, Mathematics and Christian Living. Students also study four electives subjects out of the following: Agriculture, Business Organisation and Management, History, Home Economics, Information

All subject offered at the college are accredited by the Queensland Studies Authority. The majority of our students achieve an Overall Position (OP) score required for tertiary entrance. All students must do an English subject (English or English Communication (SAS)) and a Mathematics subject (Mathematics A or Mathematics B or Prevocational Mathematics (SAS)). Four elective subjects are also chosen from the following: Agricultural Science, Agriculture and Horticulture (SAS), Ancient History, Biological Science, Business Organisation and Management, Chemistry, Drama, Home Economics, Hospitality (SAS), Information Technology Systems, Marine Studies, Manufacturing (SAS), Music, Music Extension, Physics, Physical Education, Physical Recreation (SAS), Science 21 and Visual Art.

Vocation Education and Training

 

There are a number of vocational education opportunities at our college. There are a number of school-based traineeships and apprenticeships available for students in Years 10 - 12 which allow students to stay at school and be completing a qualification through a TAFE college or other Registered Training Organisation at the same time.

 

A representative from BASIC is available for appointments with students to discuss vocational opportunities. BASIC aims to help students make the transition from school into the workforce. They strongly encourage students to complete senior before starting TAFE courses or other traineeships or apprenticeships.
